About Me

Hi there!  My name is Alicen Hoy and I have been teaching high school Social Studies for 7 years in Pennsylvania.  The school where I started my teaching (Avon Grove High School) was a regular public school.  My current school however is a little bit different.  Dauphin County Technical School is a 4 year vocational high school.  The school is one of the few in the state (and the nation) that does all of their teaching "in-house".  That means that the students are there all day for both their academic classes as well as their shop training.  It poses some interesting challenges but also creates some fun experiences as well!

Outside of school, I love to stay busy.  Exercising and staying in shape is one of my passions.  I have started to develop a love of taking pictures as well.  Reading, being in the sun, and working in the garden are also some of my loves.  My husband and I live outside of Harrisburg, PA with our two dogs and 12 chickens!

I have loved being a part of the Boise State University grad program for Educational Technology.  I really have learned a lot over all of my classes and am looking forward to the continuation of the program.  I have tried little-by-little to add more technology into the daily goings of my classroom setting and I have had a positive effect from it.  I can't wait to learn more skills and strategies over the next few months and hope that my blog will develop into a location for resources and the sharing of ideas for technology integration!
